John,

It's been a few years, and I am not as familiar with the TO-20. But as I can remember, it has a Continental Engine with wet sleeves in it. Unlike the Perkins that were also used in the Massey's which was a dry sleeve engine. Please reply with type of engine that it is. There is some difference to the technique in removing a wet sleeve and a dry sleeve from a block. I've removed more than one wet sleeve with a bar, punch, and big hammer. The dry sleeve engine requires the need of a sleeve tree and the correct size insert in order to remove it.

you have a wet sleeve. I also tinker with wood-I turned a large wooden block down with a slight taper and a handle--I can push the block in from the top of the engine and with a slight twist, the block locks into the sleeve. With another twist, I can break the sleeve free and twist it all the way out the top of the block. I have heard of using a large diameter dowel rod and gently tapping from below.
