i twisted a spark plug in two, trying 2 make my new baby run. how can i get the piece out? its rusted to block. many thanks for your blessing anton, tx

i just did same thing on 5 star. i used a cape chisel to cut two opposite grooves out of remains. takes an 18 mm thread chaser. a wise friend said use a punch & then drill on opposite sides, like i chiseled. i still needed the cape chisel to bend the halves inward, 3 remove. cast iron cyl is soft, be careful, u can do it

VERY good advice from Glen in TX. I would like to tag on to it, and hope to not offend anyone for doing so. It would be a good idea to run the piston up on the compression stroke. Less chance of pieces and etc. getting everywhere and should be a little easier to clean out. Also, you may attempt to put an ease out in the hole. As I said, "attempt" because it isn't always that easy. When you get the broken piece of the spark plug out, if there is enough threads left you may want to run a thread chaser on 'em as well as the other holes. NAPA used to sell these, but I haven't had the need for one since I joined the service in the mid 80's so I don't know if they still have them or not. Good Luck with your project, have also experienced this and it isn't a fun time.

Not fun. I had that happen on a JD 730 LP. Tried lots of different ways but finally had to drill the center out and cut 2 slots with a small pistol grip hack saw and chop out with small chisels. Then had to fish out all the pieces with a long flexible magnet and recut the threads. Thread repair inserts are available if you don't have enough threads to recut. Takes lots of patience and tongue biting for sure. Good Luck.
