Removed head and found the water channels in the head and block filled with rust chips. Any suggestion on how I go about clearing these channels? Any help will be appreciated.

try vinegar it worked well in my overheating oliver 77 when nothing else did

Hot tank the head Make an air probe that will reach down into the head ports Hook a shop vac to the block water outlet Use safety glasses and at least a filter over your nose and mouth and start blowing makes a heck of a mess but will clean out the loose stuff If its mostly scale left a dose of muratic acid will probable take care of the baked on stuff again take care using any acid
