Hy, I'm using a 25 year old Renault truck as horse trailer. After I experienced (and solved) diesel problems (dirty tank, clogged filters, rusted and leaky fuel lines) I started the engine and it ran until it hit the air pocket in the lines. Earlier experience had learned that it would start again (with some ether help) and purge the air. But helas the starter was not able to turn the motor over any more. I could turn the engine a little by pushing the truck back and forth with the clutch engaged so I assume it is not stuck? After checking the batteries etc I was forced to remove the starter and I will bring it to a repair shop to see what's wrong. In order to get to the starter I had to remove the air intake manifold.I noticed that 3 of the 4 intakes were wet (greasy) while the #1 inlet was dry. What could this mean? bad valves on 2,3,and 4 or a clogged injector on #1? I am not ver anxious to take the engine further apart then necessary...

Could be your intake valve guides are worn and some oil gets down to the manifold that way. On the engines I'm familiar with, the injectors inject fuel into the cylinders not the intake manifold. Can you tell what the greasy substance is?
