My International 424 tractor pto kicks out of the engaged mode whenever it meets any resistance whatsoever. I can even hold the engage lever down with my foot to help support the lever from disengaging; yet the minute I try dropping the bushhog down - the PTO kicks out when coming into contact with the 2" tops of the grass. When the PTO has no resistance against it (no implement attached) it will continue to run engaged - sometimes kicking out after running for 5 minutes. I have taken the PTO spine shaft out, along with the engage level, (the clutch - which looks just like a pulley), examined all the parts and I see no major wear. I know the engage lever fits in the groove of the clutch sliding it up and down the spline shafts to engage or disengage as needed.
