Bearing / race damage from lye dip / hot tank?

I need to dip my Allis transmission case to remove the crud and paint. I would rather not beat the mainshaft and pinion shaft bearing races out. Will a lye and water dip damage these races, or just remove the oil?

How about the roller bearings in the PTO housing?

I'm good ablout flushing when I remove it from the tank, but I haven't tried parts with bearings and races before.

I really wouldn't reccommend it. It would take all the oil and grease out of them, making them completely dry,and that would wreck a sealed ball-bearing, or you would have to re-pack them, but even that may not be enough. When I had an engine block dipped, they had to press out the cam bearings, and then press in new after being dipped. I would not reccommend it, because in the long run it could just create more work and a lot of headaches.
