I inherited a JD "A" from my Father & will start restoring it soon. Where is the serial # located?
Will there be a separate # for the tractor and the motor? Any help will be appreciated.

The serial number is located on the right hand side of the tractor when sitting in the seat. It is placed underneath the magneto just behind the engine. It will be stamped on a tag. I think they do have a different number for the engine, but I am not for sure on that. Someone else on this forum would probably know better. Enjoy your "A", I have one as well that I am restoring. I have a 41 A that I remember when my dad bought it new. the serial no. is just above and slightly ahead of the belt pulley. I don't believe there is a separate no. for the engine on these old ones or maybe not on any 2 cyl. tractors.
