I was wandering has anyone ever restored a belt pully on a farmall H using wood as a surface rather than paper maybe oak or maybe some other kind of hardwood? I know paper was used originaly. I understand the cost to restore with paper is rather EXPENSIVE. thanks for any help.If icould find out what kind of paper is used i would try to restore it myself.

Scott,

I am just finishing up restoring a belt pulley for my JD LA. I tried several types of wood, including oak, but they all eventually split. Think I have found a way to do it, but not sure until completely finished and tried on the tractor. Have you found any resources on the paper? Am also thinking that if my method works, it might be something I would like to do on the side -- restoring pulleys for the old tractors. Have already gotten positve feedback from my own community. What do you think? Have you ever heard of anyone doing this as a service? Also, exactly where are you located in MO? We live outside of Cape Girardeau.

I"m trying to repair the pully on a McCormick Deering hammer mill. Mice have eaten about 25% of the paper. Do you think its possible to fill with epoxy?

Thks

Scott, I have not seen a wooden pulley on a tractor but I do remember lots of wooden pulleys on the line shafts in my grandfathers flour mill. I can think of no reason why a good wood worker could not do what you mention. If it is just a servicable pulley you are looking for there is one advertised somewhere, I believe on YT site. I have an old pulley I pulled from a Ford that is serviceable that I would cut loose right (cheap) if it would fit your application. It is just taking up space on my shelf.
