Have located a SMTA Diesel that has a gas engine in it. Still has diesel starter lever, although compression linkage is gone. Throttle linkage cobbled and of course hood cobbled. Have 47 MD with overhauled engine (w/SM pistons) that has noisy rearend. Can I put this engine in SMTA engine rails? Will I have clutch fitup problems? MD had compression and throttle on same lever, SMTA are separate, is that an insurmoutable issue? Anything else that I should think about that will be a show stopper?

I thinkd the SMTA has a biger clutch than the MD so you might have to change fly wheels.

I don't have any answers to your questions, but am interested in how this will turn out. My father has an MD at the farm that hasn't been run in years. The gas system was messed up on it (understand that this is something that isn't hard to do when your not familiar with it) but we used to pull start it. When we did run it, it seemed to have a lot of power and would run at least twice as long as the M and SM would on the same amount of fuel. I am interested in trying to get it working as it is supposed to if/when I ever get the time and money. Paid $100.00 for it and drug it down from NE Okalahoma back to Cen Tex in the early 80's. We needed a new tire and the people that owned told us that if we would buy the tire they would throw the tractor in on the deal.

I would think that the engines should mount up without any problems, and that the clutch shouldn't require a lot of modifications to make it work.
