Has any one used the tractor and implement paint sold by TSC its called BPS, it is thinned using naphtha? I was wondering if it is any good, will it stay shiney, or can you clearcoat? Thanks.

I teach ag mechanics and we paint 20 or 30 items every year. About 1/3 the jobs are with "farm store paint (CT Farm and Contry mostly) about half with OEM. The rest are amix of Sherwin Williams, PPG, or DuPont. If you keep it stored inside the farm store paint is ok for rountine painting. Cost is so close to OEM I quit using anything this year except OEM or PPG. Bought NH Red and Yellow yesterday for under $40.00 per gallon, IH Red for 36.00.

You get a perfect color match, better durability, and they really paint easily. One of the real advanages with OEM reds and yellows is they contain lead. In automotive paint (read tractor) lead is good. Only OEM that gives me fits is JD green and it's advertised as "now lead free". If you do use farm store paint be sure to use the VM&P. It's very hard to mix up well (impossible with mineral spirits), laquer thinner causes clumping, and reducer just floats. VM&P has a long hold out, really a problem if temps below 60 degrees.

Forget the paint sold by farm stores. The bare minimum in quality is sold by the manufacturer of your equipment, and it is not as good as that sold by the major paint companies such as PPG and DuPont.

I have found that this paint will change color pretty quick when exposed to sunlight. I have some implements painted with the BPS paint from TSC and the paint adheres good and there is no rust yet but what was JD green is now kind of a dull blue/green color. Since I used it I have heard the same complaints from others. I don't know what your painting or for what purpose but keep the above in mind when making your decision.
