The Best Way to Paint

I need to know the best way to paint. I want the best look for pretty cheap and the paint to stay on. Any tips? I recently bought an airless paint sprayer. Is this the best way or just use a brush? Also please tell me the best kind of paint and where I can get it please! Thanks a bunch! Luke

Airless paint sprayers are not designed for automotive paints-you need an air compressor and a spray gun. Some people that aren't very picky use a brush for cast, on sheet metal it will look terrible. You can spent $35-$50 to paint a tractor, or $300+. Tractor dealers sell synthetic or alklyd enamel, this is the $35 stuff, farm stores have have cheaper paint. PPG, DuPont and others sell the $300 stuff. This includes the primers, primer surfacers, hardeners, etc that are necessary for durability and fade resisitance. "You get what you pay for"

Well said, CNKS..I'd like to add that, I have heard that some guys use a small roller to do the sheet metal with pretty nice results... I personally use the PPG Omni 2 stage system...A very good urathane paint thats not nearly as expensive as the Deltron. I tried the single stage and got poor results...I spray the first coat of single stage... assemble alot of the components, add another coat.. then several coats of clearcoat.. I can work out any sags with the clear coat...

I'm no expert, I just get all the information I can before I try something. I am currently painting a Farmall C with Omni single stage -- no clear coat. Using a Sharpe Cobalt primer gun, Sharpe Platinum finish gun, and a touch up gun for small parts -- all HVLP. Thus far primer and topcoats have gone on smoothly with no runs and very little orange peel. Got a couple of sags with the touch up gun, held it too close. I'm painting all parts separately before assembly, even what doesn't show -- takes a lot of time and patience.
