Greetings:

I live on a 40 acre ranch and would like to start rebuilding and collecting antique tractors. This is something that I have been interested in for most of my life, but have not had the space it would require.

My question is, where do I begin (aside from buying books on the subject)? I may have access to an International Harvesterin the near future.

Take a look a the website in this link. It is advice on Farmall H but is also generic enough to help you with other tractor brands. It helped me.

There's a pretty good generic book which I think would be great for someone just starting out and that is a book called ANTIQUE TRACTOR BIBLE by a fellow by the name of Spencer Yost. Some of the regulars here might pooh-pooh it because it isn't really specific (you need your tractor's owners/shop manual for that) but it is a good all-round book I'd say. I've seen it advertised here on the YT site, check the book sales section. It covers most all aspects of tractor restoration, trailering, etc. Good luck with your projects.

To add to The other post. When your wife banishes you to the barn/shop/work area, the good thing is that you can work on it(or play with it) as much as you want to whenever you want to.. Play it smart, be like B'rer Rabbit in the Uncle Remus story when he begged them not to throw him in the briar patch(which was where he really wanted to be all the time) make them think you would really rather be sitting at their feet,and make like they are doing you wrong to make you stay out there with all that JUNQUE you have stashed away for this very moment in your life!! First you'll need the tractor. Generally, the right one will tell you, and it won't let you sleep until you buy it. Also, it won't let you stop talking about it until either your wife puts you in the barn or you buy it.
