My daughter is looking at restoring a pair of JD steel wheels for next years 4-H projects. Does anyone have any information on how to start researching the value and history of the wheels and the steps to start restoring for decoration. Thanks.

Well, are they round spoke? round spoke S-H? flat spoke, flat spoke cut offs, solid, steel, cast, and what year tractor are they off of? Have you tried posting over on the JD board? john in nebr.

Not sure about value or history, but I know some of the rarer ones can be downright pricey for someone trying to replace one on an old tractor/implement. But for restoring, set you up an electrolysis tub to remove all the old rust. There's a thread going over on the 8-N forum with a link of how to set one up. It works wonders, I've been doing it on an OLD Case tractor and it's made all the difference in the world for it. I've been using old coffee cans for the anode as they are available and free, but with a little imagination you can use about anything with any side tub. Try to do some before/after photos for her project and show them with the piece. She'll probably work it into a part time job...
