Is there a cheap fix for a steering wheel that has only the wire remaining? I'm thinking of splitting 3/8 fuel line, slipping it around wheel and wrapping it with electrical tape.

I have one on a farmall 100 that has been burned. I thought about dipping it in the stuff that you coat the ends of your tools with for insulation purposes and identification. Repeated dipping would probably be necessary, but it ought to be cheaper than buying a new one. If anyone has tried it, let us know. By the way, would appreciate any advice anyone would have on preparing a tractor for painting that has been burned.

There are places that you can send dthe stering wheel to tht will recover it just like original. I think that it costs about $70 or so. I can look up the info if you like.

I had the wheel from my A recovered by MinnKota Repair. It was $70 including shipping. They did an outstanding job, better than any homemade idea. It is actuall better than original, with thich rubber that is slightly "scalloped" (has the gently bumps on the back side like car steering wheels do so you can grip it more easily)This type of covering will protect your wheel and you get to keep your original wheel, if that is important to you. Their web page is down right now, but they advertise in many tractor magazines.

Kelvin....when the steering wheel is gone that far that's all you got....but been some(steering wheels) on auction site and they make an after market wheel....if it was only partly broken they make a kit to fix....good luck...

Depending on what kind of tractor you have, there are cheap aftermarket versions available.($30-$75 for new ones) Recovering or rebuilding one normally cost more than a new one.

Or you can wrap the core with heavy wire, and Bondo it back to look like a wheel, then paint it the original color, seen it done a couple of times, it even felt right. John in Ne.

Brush Truck Bed Liner on the wheel, that's What I'm going to do. You Can get it at any car store like Auto Zone.
