While I know that I have seen this topic covered before I'm not having any luck finding those threads.

Seems I remember JB Weld and fiberglass body putty mentioned, but I also seem to recall that another product was considered even better.

Can you enlighten me? Also what to use for a coat over the refurbished wheel, just a durable paint or some sort of Plastigrip?

Thanks.

I used a 5 minute epoxy and filled all sizes of holes. Let it setup and dry real good and then just sand it down. After I got it smooth I shot it with about 5 coats of that rubber spray in a can. It looks great, works great and hasn't left my hands all black and nasty.

JB weld works fine- I"ve found that it helps to use a split hose or something similar to maintain shape around the steering wheel-then remove the hose and grind/file the excess away.

Go to your local NAPA store and get a product called POR-15. It's an epoxy putty and you get two bars. Cut an equal amount off each bar, mix together and work it on. I paid $19 for mine.
I have redone the steering wheel's on an Allis B and Farmall B and still over half of it left. Great results.

I just fixed one also. I used a couple of different products. For the small cracks I used JB Weld. I used a toothpick to kind of smoosh it in there. Sanded it off when hard. It took two or three "coats" in some of them. I also had a couple of large chunks missing. I used epoxy putty for those. I'd never used the stuff before but now I'm sold. I'd probably try it in the small cracks too. Good stuff and quite inexpensive.

Thanks. I have seen epoxy putty in stores but never thought I had a use for any. Using it actually sounds better to me than mixing JB Weld.

Gotta get busy, my hometown has an antique tractor parade coming up in early May.

A flyer is supposed to be mailed to me any day now from a cousin.

What little I know now---Utica, Kansas in Ness County. Parade generally late in the day around 3 or 4 p.m.

I've not attended one in the past but understand it is a decent event for such a small town (200).

This has been going on several years now, perhaps 5.

I'll post more after getting the flyer.

I just repaired mine this afternoon using JB weld. I found the right stuff on the Eastwood Co website(do a search). But decided on the JB weld (cheaper). V shape all cracks, apply JB pressing deep into cracks let dry, file, sand ect. Next apply a etching primer (NAPA makes a very good one in a rattle can) sand smooth paint black and could clear coat all with rattle cans

Hope this helps

Thanks. I have a current Eastwood catalog but haven"t looked through it. Maybe that is what I was remembering about.

I don"t mind going to my local NAPA store at all. The manager is a very nice young lady, and it doesn"t hurt my feelings that she is attractive too.

Expect I would be buying a lot of parts if I were 20 years younger.

Again, thanks
