Can any of you guys tell me where I could find a field circuit resistor for my 6 volt B? It goes in the switch box and causes a reduction of the generator output when the lights are off so the battery is not overcharged and damage is done to the generator. If I can't find one, besides always running the lights, what should I do? Also, What is the correct type and amperage of the glass fuse in the switch box? Mine is burnt out. I am just rebuilding this tractor and had the generator repaired and tested. The damage to the fuse and resistor was from before the restoration started.
Thanks!

I agree... if you want to expirement.. try adding 1-5 ohms of resistance in to the field circuit. I remember for a while before I had a working VR on my IH cub, I rigged up a simple toggleswitch hi/low charge and used I believe 2.5 ohms or so..

Thats sort of how I arrived at my "best guess" for additional field resistance, if you look through genny specs you see full field currents typically in the 1.5 to 3.5 amp or so range so do the math and if you wanan reduce it to half as much (for low charge) that leaves you with around 3 ohms of resistance, depends, of course, on 6 or 12 volt gennys and their ratings etc.

The IHC guys like Bob M or Jim or ElToro etc can likely guide you to a source to buy a regular LHBD IHC switch but if you wanted to jury rig something in the meantime a high wattage power resistor from like Radio Shack in the vicinity of 2 to 3 ohms added in series between the gennys FLD post and frame ground will reduce the charge rate, after all thats the same thing the LHBD does in the Low charge (L) setting to limit the gennys Field current. In high charge (H) that resistance is effectively shorted out to ground to increase the field current.

John T NOT an IHC parts kinda guy
