I have a 1968 MF-135 diesel tractor with lift problems. The tractor has not been run since last fall when everything worked. Cranked the tractor a couple of days ago and the lift would not pick up a bush hog but a few inches. Lift will operate full range without load. Have changed filter but still have problem. Any ideas of what the trouble may be and where to look next?

Slap a gauge in a remote and deadhead it to see what pressure the pump is making.. if no remote port.. then a test port will work with the arms chained down.. course, as Jerry points out.. if there is a leak.. this last option will show a low pressure .. still worth looking into to help diagnos ethe problem..

I"d ask this question in the Massey Ferguson Forum on this site. Tat"s where most of the MF experts are at.

My guess is that you have some sort of internal leak. There is enough pressure at low flow that the unloaded lift arms can be raised but when you attempt to lift anything heavier, the pump cannot supply the flow at a pressure that will cause the lift to raise. If you have an access panel in the transhydraulic compartment, open it up, start the engine and move the lift lever to up with a load on it and look for leaks. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PLACE YOUR HANDS IN THE COMPARTMENT WHEILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
