working on a old 8n and need to replace the valve seats no problem removing the old but having a time getting the new exhauste seats in without fear of breaking them, any ideas or helpful tips out there? thanks

Valve seats require a driver designed to fit the 45 degree angle of the seat and pilot that slips throught the valve guide to center the the seat with the guide. Hit firmly with a hammer until fully seated at bottom of recess.

All replacement seats I ever installed required machining out the block/head to a slightly over size counterbore or recess to remove all traces of the old seat bearing surface. Make sure that the seat rings you are trying to install are sized correctly for the recess. Trying to install over sized seats in the a small recess is asking for trouble.

Jerry B has it well covered. If the seats are the right size for the recess, chilling them in the freezer, or preferably with dry ice, will shrink them a little and make installation easier but you have to work fast before they warm up.
