hello,

Some time ago, I started the engine of my 4020 diesel (early type) and I drove it for 2 minutes but then sudden the engine stopped running (there was no special noise). I have replaced the fuel filters, (they were messy) but that did not change anything to it. Now I have drawn the injectors out the engine and 3 of them (there are 6) spray fuel out 2 or 3 holes (shoud be 5) and one of them does not inject sometimes. The other 3 work "good". Could that be the reason why it stopped running??
I also checked the lines wich return fuel to the tank, but they are open.
Injectors and pump are roosa-master

Thanks,
Koen

I have indeed the db pump, but I have allready checked the valve and I found no 'trash' in it. could it be that the the pump delivres not enough pressure, but the injectors will still open but do not spray enough to provoce an explosion?

If the governor damper ring has deteriorated, can I repair it myself?

You might be able to rebuild it yourself, but if you mess it up, it could cost you a bundle. I would take it to someone trained to do the job. Ask them to replace the governor weight retainer with one that does away with the plastic ring. Then you will never have to worry about having the same problem a few years down the road.

Your engine did NOT stop because of the injectors.

ASSUMING you have properly bled the primary fuel system, either you have a restriction to flow from the tank to the pump, or (if you have a Roosa "DB" pump), the governor damper ring deep inside the IP has deteriorated, and had come apart into "coffee grounds", which are plugging up the housing pressure regulating valve, inboard of the fuel return fitting, screwed into the IP's cover.
