the to 20 has been converted to a 12 volt system. however i am not getting any reading out of my generator to my regulator. i have been over every connection, cleaned, and reinstalled. wired exactly like the diagrams that i have found on the north american ferguson enthusiast and my shop manual book. gone over everything hope i am missing something simple. the generator has been taken off and tested it was fine off the tractor.

What ckt type is this genny / regulator?

Hint.. flip the reg over... look at the bias resistor(s) underneath to determine circuit type.

A circuit:

Bias resistor from ground tab to FLD tab.

B circuit:

Bias resistor from ARM/GEN tab to FLD tab.. may have another bias resistor.

Now.. once you determine the field type...

Motor test your genny.

slip belt off genny, disconnect ALL wires.

hook arm/gen to bat Hot.

If it is A circuit, then ground the Fld post.

If it is B circuit, lump hot to FLD as well.

Most gennies that motor, will charge.. most gennies that charge.. will motor.

If it is A- circuit, you can put it back together and leave F wire off and then start up tractor, grounding F post on Genny will make max charge.

If it is B circuit, leave F wire off, but jumper F post to bat hot and it should make max charge.

If still nothing at battery.. jumper arm to bat across the regulator.. it may have a bad cutout.. repeat full field test for circuit type.

post back if you have questions.. if you know circuit type.. post it.. makes diagnostics easier..

Did you polarize it before you started it up? What termminal on the battery is ground?

Do this ONLY IF YOU HAVE A GENERATOR with a negative ground! MOMENTARILY connect a jumper wire from the generator armature terminal to the (+) post of the battery.

I have tried to polorize the generator it did not work or help. I have rewired everything and still have nothing. Is it possible that my generator is not spinning fast enough to generate what i need? If i should try to go back to a 6 volt system would this be easier or should i upgrade to a alternator. the only alternator kit i have found is for a TO 30 and say if i make a bracket for it it will work. i am getting really tired of staring at this tractor and trying to will it to work. any help will help.
