I have 39 JD B.It is in good running condition butcould use a repaint.When I drained the oil I noticed that there was alot of water in it. What are the possible causes of this?Since it looks like I will be tearing the motor down, I have decided to do complete restoration.I have never done arestoration before or an engine rebuild. Any suggestionsor tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks Lew G.

if alot of water in oil usually a blown head gasket or sometimes the walls of the block can crack and leak.most times head gasket and if doing a total rebuild i would have the block checked for cracks just to be on the safe side.make sure the head is not warped and have it checked for that. hope this helps a little.

Condensation from cast and different temps in the air. Could also be from sitting outside and rain coming in around the shifter, muffler etc. It is just something one has to deal with, but should be monitored before using the tractor. Water will come out first when slightly pulling the plug to drain. Best off, drain all fluids and replace if tearing it down anyway. Many archvives on this topic.
