I was wondering if anyone had any idea about how many hand cranks per minute is recommended for operating on of these. The reason I ask is that I hand crank it at about 60 cranks/minute, but thats tiring so I was going to hook it to a one horse sweep power.

One horse makes 2.5 sweep revolutions per minute which is about 90 revolutions in the crank drive of the sheller if I hook it direct. Is this too fast?

we had an old one holer sheller, stood maybe 4ft high, flywheel on one side , crank on the other. dad welded a 14 rim off a car on the big flywheel, then put a 1/2 hp electric motor witha small pulley-3 or so inch diameter, and just ran a v belt on the center of the rim. worked good, spun about as fas as you could hand crank it, was sure a lot easier!!! prolly 12- inch diameter driven pulley would be about the right size for correct speed.

I dont have a David Bradly but I think they all are purdy much alike. It does not make much difference how fast you turn the crank to get the corn off the cob. The faster you crank the more ears you can get shelled per minute.
