Hello, Have you tried to see if the dowl pin is loose in the shaft at the bottom of the lever, if it is or it pops out or gone you may wanna put and oversize dowl in the hole or if the pin is still there you can JB weld it, but it would be better to put an over size dowl in its place. Learned this from my buddies that pull Allis's. Hope its not to severe....

Ray

As long as the shift is straight,it's not a problem, but my 1020 is a loader tractor. I left it sitting in the feedlot while I was out with a load of manure one time. When I got back, the bull had his ring over one of the shifts and couldn't get it up past the knob. He was pulling so hard he was skidding the tractor sideways a little every tug. He bent the shift. Now you have to make sure it doesn't turn while shifting. If it does, you run the risk of it jumping in the fork and hanging in two gears at once. I've had to take it apart twice to get it out of gear. I've straightened it some, but I'm afraid of breaking it.

If it's an Allis, yes they spin. So do both shifts on my 1020 JD. It's just the way they are made. A ball in a socket with a point that goes in to the fork.
