castle nut installing inner axle bearing

Ran into a problem with installing the inner bearing on rear axle shaft.Manual shows using the castle nut to press the inner bearing on the drive shaft via the final drive gear.I can't tighten the nut anymore and am starting to see metal filings like I am stripping the threads.I am getting close but am afraid to force this castle nut to continue to press the bearing on.Is there another way to press this bearing on and save the castle nut and axle shaft threads.Thanks in advance for you help.

I usually have to take a triangle file and clean up the threads paying close attention around the cotter pin holes they seem to get burred up there from the pin banging around for all those years. Deburr the back of the nuts too. Then try some grease or neverseez on the threads and the backside of the nut where it contacts the gear. This should help things turn easier. Do all you tightening up and adjusting before you put the outer felts in too. I like to draw them up so all play is gone but they still turn free. 0 end play and no preload. After the felts are in they will make it turn hard.
