I just purchased my first tractor, a 1962 Ford 801. It runs great but just needs a little tlc. The box blade on my 3 point jumps when raising up and I have a decent hydraulic leak @ a new hose connection on my front boom of my loader. Where do I bleed the pressure to repair the leak? What could be causing the jumping? Thanks for any input.

Wade, your hydraulic pump needs to be bled to stop your 3 point hitch from hicupping.On the front of your main hydraulic pump near the topside you will find a 1/2"pipe plug.With the engine running at idle speed and with the implement in the down position loosen the plug until fluid begins to spurt out.At first it will split out air and fluid.When it clears and only oil comes out then the system is purged of air.Tighten plug and then raise the implement.It should work smoothly now.If not then repeat procedure.

The jumping could be from low fluid level or a relief valve not working as it should. To bleed off the pressure all you need to do is turn off the engine and then push/pull all the hyd levers and all the pressure will then be gone. Just make sure the loader is on the ground or it will be as soon as you push/pull the levers
