I am having a problem with the fuel system on my international 574. It ran out of gas 2 years ago and will not run the same to this day. The carb has been cleaned and rebuilt. The tractor runs, but not well, very rich, and backfires alot. I am no mechanic but need my tractor, badly. I also don"t have the money to take it to a mechanic. There is a screw in piece in the bottom of the carb that has a wire running to it. What is this and where can i get a new one? Would this be the cause of all of my problems. PLEASE HELP ME. Sean

HI MATE. THE OTHER REPLY IS RIGHT IN THAT WHEN THE LAST OF THE FUEL LEFT THE TANK IT TOOK WITH IT THE CRUD. EVEN THOUGH YOUR CARBY WAS DONE, IT SOUNDS AS YOU DID THE JOB YOURSELF. GREAT TO LEARN THESE THINGS FOR YOURSELF BUT AS A LONG TIME MECHANIC I HAVE FOUND EXPERIENCE IS A GREAT HELP. REMOVE AND DISSMANTLE THE CARBY AGAIN AND CHECK FOR EVERY LITTLE PASSAGE WAY. YOU WILL FIND ONE BLOCKED THAT YOU MISSED FIRST TIME. DO IT WHEN IN GOOD MIND AND PLENTY OF TIME. USE CARBY CLEANER AND COMPRESSED AIR. CHEERS GRAEME

havent seen anybody reply yet so i'll take a whack at it. the wire could be a fuel shut off solenoid. they would shut the fuel off in the carb when the key is tuned off. if it ran out of fuel and now doesnt run right, i would suspect that debris from the tank got pulled in the fuel system. start by draining the tank and lookin in there with a flashlight to see if there is crud in there. flush the tank out, then flush/blow out all the lines going to the carb. i would also drop the fuel bowl off the carb and spray that out good with carb cleaner. then check the ignition system. could be moisture in the distributor cap and or corrosion from sitting. if you have a timing light, mark the timing marks on the crank pulley, (i use a bottle of white -out correction fluid) and start the tractor, see if the timing jumps all over or if its steady. if its jumping, could be moisture or a cracked distributor cap. also check for a bright blue spark at the spark plugs. your cnh dealer should have that part if you need it. but check stuff out first before throwing parts at it.
