I'm helping a friend of mine rebuild an old WD and we're stuck. He bought the o-rings and when we try and put the sleeves back in, we just can't get them in. It seems like the o-rings are just too big. The guy at the tractor store said that the o-rings that he sold to us are the only ones available. One guy at a local engine shop said to turn the sleeves so the o-rings will have more room to fit. Another said to forget the o-rings and seal them with silicon. Neither of these make any sense to me at all. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can get these sleeves in. I really would appreciate the help.

We've cleaned them up good. Anymore would be taking away metal. We tried the freezer trick too.

Did you put the sleeves down in the block by hand and turn them by hand 360 degrees without the O rings?

That is the only way you can know if you are ready to put O rings on the sleeves. If you put them in and they do not slip all the way down you will have to remove enough metal to do so. If you can do the above then you have the wrong O rings.
I have had several say I did not do that and I didnt have a leak. So what people pass going up a hill every day that dont have a head on crash but it still dont make it the correct thing to do.

There easy to get in if you use the right stuff. Go buy a bottle of dish soap and lube them down real good with the stuff and they will slip right in IF you have cleaned up the sleeve area real well if you haven't then they will not fit. You need them to drop in easy with out the O-rings fist or they are not clean enough. BTDT on a C and after I found the right combo it was a snap. Plus others thold me what I just said LOL
