I Have a Ford 3400 utility tractor 3 cyl diesel w/loader/backhoe. I had not started the tractor (old faithful) in about 2 months, when I started it she dripped water after letting her idle for about 10 min. The water (coolant) dripped out of the rear left of the motor (plate between engine & transmission) I pulled the inspection (flywheel access) plate off, I didn't see any leakage from there. I have tried "kw block seal" with no luck, when I used it, the small leak I had on the left side turned into a major leak on the right side. I checked for coolant in the oil & oil in the coolant. No steam/ excess exhaust is present. I think I can rule out Head Gasket right? MY QUESTION, IS THERE FREEZE PLUGS ON THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BLOCK, IF SO IS THIS THE PROBLEM ?

yes. coming from that area, it is plug in rear of engine. requires tractor split, clutch & flywheel removal.

thanks for the advice, paulsdiesel. The answer you gave is what i suspected. Now if you have any advice on splitting the tractor. Basically I need to know how to support each side of the split after I disconnect everything. Is there some way to do it with out having a massive hoist or other heavy equipment on hand or do I have to fabricate something like a rolling jack stand. I understand this can be a tricky process any tips will help. Thanks alot!

well, can't remember the procedure on that tractor. last splits i have done on a 3400 size tractor were without loader backhoe; blocked engine-frt axle; rolled rest of tractor away. the last similar split i did was on a backhoe--used large trans jack under engine to roll out between rails. bucket was up & BLOCKED @ cylinders with the factory attachment. careful blocking of loader frame & backhoe & outriggers down, some tractors, its easier to remove loader first than do the job. hope this helps.

Thanks, already removed hoe & by the looks of it will be easier to remove loader first. Thanks again for your tips.
