In 1941 even the wheel rims were red, the galvanized rims appeared about 1943. I have a 1941 W4 with three piece rims.

pick up a book by guy fay on the letter series farmall tractors. it got a wealth of information in there. explains how the tractors were painted at the factory, gives decal locations, has tons of photos. and the book is fun to read. pretty much everything is painted on the tractor, even the shift knob and hoses and belts. a few items were masked off. the pistons and sleeves are mighty expnsive for the w-9, run somehere in the 1000 to 1500 dollar range. butttt, the 9 is a fun tractor to drive, dualed up and loaded, she'll really pull!! heres my 9 next to my cub
