Need a little help. I just installed a new tune-up kit on my '56 Ford 800. I am having trouble getting it started and keeping it running. I am smelling gas when trying to start it, and when I do finally get it going I have to constantly adjust the choke position to try and keep it running. I have tried adjusting the needle valve to get it running smooth but to no avail. I feel like the spark advance needs adjusting just don't know how to easily do it without constantly taking things on an off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you set the points at the correct gap?? If you didn't that will cause you problems like your haveing. Point gap should be 0.024-0.026. Also check that you don't have any thing shorting out or to close to the body of the distubturor that can cause it to arc because that will also cause you the same problems. From what you have said it sounds like you have a weak spark and chokeing it masks the problem of weak spark
