Here's the hole I'm in... About 5 years ago I started in tearing down a 1953 JD 60. In typical youthful fashion, I was possessed with 95% confidence and 5% knowledge of engines, restoration, etc. Well I got the old girl broken down to the point where I pulled the crank and ordered a new one, new block, rebuilt the valves, then everything came to a screaming halt. Alas the project was under cover but many parts (i.e. pistons, crank, refurbished replacement block, etc.) have some surface rust on them, parts are everywhere, bolts are in 3 coffee cans, and I'm in a mess. Things have settled down, funds have become available, and I'm ready to launch this project. BUT where do I start?!? I know the question is vague but I need somebody to point me straight. Any advice would be appreciated.

Might be wise to get take critical components such as crank, cam and block to an auto machinist to determine if additional work in cleaning them up prior to reassembly is required. If they are rusted and dirty I would think You are inviting trouble if reassembled in that condition. I have been advised to try to lable and put all nuts and bolts in plastic bags when disassembling components. If You did not make notes during the disassembly, You will have a tough time. Try finding a parts manual, it will help You out. Good Luck-John
