I put the lawnmower battery in backwards and now it won't even turnover. My Dad thinks some kind of "starter cylinoid?" any ideas?

The fuse your looking for is about the diameter of an eyebrow pencil, and about as long as a lipstick tube. It comes apart with a half twist and should be either black or kind of clear like the color of tupper ware. with a wire coming out each end.

the starters on many small engines are perment magnet motor an wont engage the starter gear when the run reverse. by hooking the battery backwares .

Not having any idea of the electrical components on whatever mower it is I dont see polarity reversal permanently damaging the electrical start solenoid (assuming it has one).

Id be suspecting some in line fuses somewhere may simply be blown. If you know what fuses look like and where to find them (if it has any) Id be checking them as my prime suspect.

Other typical problem areas on lawn mowers not starting (not cranking over) are safety limit switches under the seats or on the blade engage assembly or some sort of neutral switch or maybe having to have a brake or clutch pushed down before she can crank over.

You might look for burned up wires which reverse polarity may have fried, thats another thing that might have happened.

Its NOT rocket science but you have to have someone with some knowledge of electricity to trace down the problem which we cant help ya with over the net.
