I bought a 1951 case vao with 6 volt system. Owners manual says battery should be positive ground. Mine is hooked up negitive ground and tractor runs fine. Could the new battery have been hooked up backward and the E system still function properly or has my tractor had some wiring changes?

Dale, yesssss ssss the typical Class A charging charging system can still work and no harm done if connected at reversed polarity provided the genny were correctly repolarized buttttt ttttt t if it has an ammeter it would read bass ackwards unless its leads were reversed and if its a battery powered coil ignition versus a mag, it will still work but function more efficient if the coil leads were also reversed.

If it has an ammeter and if its wired correct when you turn on lights and ignition (unless a mag) engine NOT running the ammeter should swing to - discharge but then swing to + charge when running if the charging system works.

If she currently charges okay and the ammeter registers correct all is welllll (even if NOT at original polarity) and you may wanna insure the coil is wired correct if its a coil n distributor versus a mag.
