Ball Bearing Question

As I am disassembling my 1944 JD A, I keep removing ball bearings in various assemblies. I know NOTHING about ball bearings. When I remove them, they fall out of the metal thing that positions them. Often times, that thing that holds them bends out of shape. Can I re-use these bearings and pieces, or should I replace them? Can anyone help me out?

Thank you.

I would post on the JD page and tell them guys exactly what bearings you have removed. Most bearings have built in cages and races and do not come apart. The outer race will have numbers etched on the side for type. You can look up bearings in the phone book and find "Motion Industries" in most larger cities. They can cross reference most numbers to new bearing numbers.

JKC, if those bearings are falling apart during removal, you are either pulling the assemblies apart incorrectly or the bearings are worn or broken.
~While bearings can be reassembled IF the balls, both races & separator are in good condition, that should only be done if you are an expert at analyzing bearing condition & can't find a reasonable replacement.
~Use extreme caution when removing bearings & assemblies from antique tractors, some of those bearings can run hundreds of dollars each. Even worse some aren't available anymore..... .
