THERE ARE 4 TIMING MARKS ON THE FLYWHEEL OF MY JD MODEL 50 TRACTOR. THEY ARE 20,25,1DC AND 5. THE MANUAL SAYS TO SET ON THE 5 MARK. THIS DOES NOT WORK.WHAT IS CORRECT? ALSO, THE MANUAL SAYS TO SET THE POINT GAP @ .022 INCH. THE INFO ON THE INSIDE OF THE DISTRIBUTOR SAYS TO SET THE GAP @ .005 INCH. WHAT IS CORRECT? I HAVE A WICO XB4023 DISTRIBUTOR WITH A COIL AND BUILT IN RESISTOR.THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

The IT Shop Service manual has the following information for a,Wico XB4023 distributor.
Contact Gap 0.015
Rotation, Drive End CC
Starting retard 25 degrees
Static timing mark for 50 gasoline is 5 degrees, for all fuel TDC. Remove the cover from the timing port in the flywheel housing to do this.
Desired running timing is 20 degrees BTC for gas, 25 degrees for all fuel.

Douglas, the correct BASE timing for a gas 50 is 5* ATDC (that is after top dead center not before).(LP & all-fuel use different base settings)
~ The running timing set with a timing light through the timing hole with the engine running at fast idle is 20* BTDC.
~The point gap on that Wico dist is .014"-.017", or .015" is what I usually use.
