I have been considering re-powering my 85 KW Generator that currently has a International Harvestor V549 V8. IT has been a challenge to find parts for it. I have been thinking a newer Chevy or Ford motor - something where parts are available. Anything thoughts on how to create a conversion plate so it can bolt up.

FWIW,if you didn"t mean a newer Chev or Ford Industrial motor, and were thinking of a car or truck motor, remember Industrials usually run in a narrower power-rpm range etc than a car or truck motor, which generally has to be a lot more "flexible".

Don't know if this will help or not but I found out years ago that the tranny from a IH scout will bolt right up to the bell houseing of the small block chevs. Now as far as that engine I may even have some parts here since I have 2 IH trucks with some big engines in them. These trucks are tandem axle twin screw trucks

I am not that familiar with the IH 549, but does it use a round SAE spec housing where the generator attaches ? If so, both Ford and Chevy use adapter plates to adapt sae pattern transmissions to the stock ford or Chevy block pattern. The generator to flywheel adapter may also be an easy fit, as many driver plates use a standard truck clutch bolt circle which is pretty much standard between brands for a given size clutch.
