My super a tractor starts very hard after running out of gas. While trying to start it the last time it ran out, I wore down the battery. I jumped it with another battery and it still would not start. I wore down the sedond battery, and decided to call it a nitht. The next day I tried to jump it again and got nothing. the starter would not even turn over. can you advise on 1. why it starts so hard after running out of gas. 2. why It went totally dead.

thanks JJ

John,
An ocasional problem with my Super-A is the starter Bendix jams in the ring gear and locks up the engine and the starter. Loosen the two starter mounting bolts, maybe even wiggle the starter a bit, and it should release. To lessen the problem, turn the engine just tad with a fan blade BEFORE you turn on the ignition and attempt to start it.

Won't start when you run out of gas? Sounds as if you could have floating trash in your gas tank that enters and plugs the gas line as the tank empties.

I agree with the other poster.. If she ran out of gas.. then won't start.. may be that gas isn't getting to the bowl inthe carb.. I'd check to see if your carb has a drain.. if so.. open it and see what you get out.

Could be other things like a stuck float..e tc..

re starting after no fuel. you probably have got something plugging the fuel line or carb. loosen the line where it goes in the carb, see if you get fuel. also check the bowl on the carb, there may be a drain plug, loosen it and see if you get gas coming out. you can also try a shot of ether starting fluid to see if she pops. re starter, it may have burned out from cranking. pull the starter and try it on the floor, see if it turns. also check all the connections, clean them up good. also check battery
