I had my fathers pull-around battery charger looked at by an auto electic company. They said the transformer and the rectifier was shot. They said they could not get parts for it. I was wondering if anyone has any information to help me out. It is really nice older (1960'-1970's)SUN with timer and 6V-12V settings.
Dad is gone and this is one of the things I remember about his shop as a kid--I am willing to put TOO much money into it just to bring her back to life. Any suggestions appreciated. Mark

I think I've got some Sun literature from about that period boxed up here somewhere; it's almost certainly sales brochures and prices, but I'll try to dig it out to see if it has some tech spec info.

Schumacher makes most of the wheeled chargers that I have seen. They are available at many auto parts, tractor supply, and discount (Sams, COSTCO, etc.) stores under various names. Find a similar model to your SUN and I think that you can probably use parts of the internals to fix yours.... Schumacher Link below... Actual retail prices vary but can be about half of the MSRP. I used to have an old battery charger that I was once told was shot.All it took was an off the shelf starter solenoid ,6 volt Ford, I think, at NAPA.It fried itself a few years later. Take a look see at the coil windings and see if they look like they have been hot.

I was going to say the same thing as stump. Also you could check ebay. I would do like stump says, it would probably be best.

If no parts are available buy a new similar size unit and put the guts of the new one in your old case.
