If you wanna go with a straight 12 volt coil and NOT mess with any series Ballast Resistor, you need, obviously, to ask for a full true 12 volt coil (might wanna add for an old fashion points n condensor ignition system) what some refer to as an "Internaly Ballasted Coil". Such a Coil might be labeled "12 Volts" or "12 Volts no external ballast required" but CAUTION DO NOT get one labeled "12 volts for use with an external ballast rersistor" cuz thats in reality a 6 volt coil. A full true 12 volt coil will have around 3 ohms primary resistance as measured between its lil + and - terminals while a 6 volt would be more like 1.25 to 1.75 or so ohms. NOTE 1 If it had an external ballast before you would NO longer use that on a 12 volt coil only if you used a 6 volt coil. NOTE 2 If youre at Neg ground, the new coil will wire + from the ignition switch and its - to the distributor. Hope this helps and if I missed anything, sorry, post back any more questions. John T
