SAND BLAST OR STRIPPER????

Im new to this restoration and need to know if sandblasting an old tractor is best or should i use a rust stopper and light hand sanding to prime and paint my JD 1010. Also were do I find metal parts such as a grill cover and original battery box, Etc.....??? Thanks!!

hi, for what its worth, i sandblast after i have removed the grease and oil. you do need to be careful to cover all parts you don't want sand in.
sometimes i use plastic grocery bags and duct tape. the main body of tractor i usually just sand blast lightly just so the paint has a good service to stick to. regular sand for sandblasting is very expensive so if you are a cheapskate like me, you may want to screen washed masonry sand. i spread it out on a tarp so it will dry before i screen it. i purchased a sandblaster from northern tool and equipment for about $170, and have gotten a lot of use out of it. as you know, you will need a fairly large compressor. sandblasting removes rust which is another advantage over using stripper.
