Not sure about that specific model ,but alot of those Fairbanks mags. are better built and throw way hotter spark than those Wicos. I'd use it.

David, Any good NAPA or auto parts should have had points and condenser for a FM J or X mag. I and others still have many new & NOS parts for the FM J or X mags. New FM-X mags are still made today but you can't afford them. The FM-RV is a different story though. Like John T said the Wico XH mag is the later more reliable mag and can be built to be hotter than original yet the XH has been made since 1947 and still being made new again today so parts are easier to find. The Wico C-1042 mag would have came on your tractor yet the Wico XH-1042 was also sold by JD as a more reliable replacement for it so either are correct. Nothing wrong with the little FM mags except prices on some parts like new caps but if NOS is available they can be fixed reasonable too depending on what is needed.

David, You might try Glen in Tx, aka Glen Schueler in Texas, 806-295-3683 magnetos@wtrt.net, tell him Old John T sent ya.

If its too expensive to rebuild you might consider a more standard and reliable and still Correct Police Correct Mag like the Wico Model X for which parts are more readily available and not too expensive (see pic of one on my B)
