Missing turbo gauge on a 4020?

I have an early 4020 with a turbo. My question is do turbos come with a gauge to monitor temperature or pressure? I found a sensor on the backside of the turbo manifold but is not wired to anything. Not sure type of gauge I need.

Pyrometers were an option with M&W kits.I almost always installed them when I installed the turbos. Pyrometers of that day used a stainless wrapped cable( much like old water temp cables, only larger) from the manifold clear back to the gauge itself.The newer ones now use wiring from the sensing bulb to the gauge.If yours does not have a connection they it probably has been cut ofv at the bulb.

Are you referring to a john deere 4020? They never put turbos on from the factory, however M&W made a kit for them. A factory gauge wouln't be available.
You can Get an aftermarket pyrometer at your local Napa or any truck dealership,{Peterbilt, kenworth International etc...} good luck! Brian

If the sensor is located in the exhaust manifold or exhaust outlet pipe, it is probably to measure temperature. Never saw one on a farm tractor, but semi tractors have used them for years. The gauge to measure exhaust temperature is referred to as a "pyrometer". For strong running diesels (with the fuel turned up) one watches the exhaust temps because the aluminum pistons melt at around 1350 degrees. If the sensor is located in the intake plumbing, it probably measures boost pressure.

I have a with an M&W turbo setup, and it has a pyrometer.

Depending on where and what he is seeing, it could even be the fitting for the starting fluid injector.

Lots of folks put pyrometers on diesel pickups. Any shop that hotrods them will have a pyrometer, or check out isspro.com.
