Old H won't shift

I have a 1950 International model H that has always been reliable. I was pulling a car yesterday and when finished went to shift into another gear. At first I could shift into any gear but when letting out the clutch it would bog down the motor like it's under a load but go nowwhere. 5th gear worked but no other gears would. Then after messing with it for awhile I could no longer shift into 5th but when in neutral the clutch will engage if let out and I'm still in 5th gear. I can shift into any gear but 5th now because that's in neutral. Any info is greatly appreciated. Hopefully the repair cost is less than the worth of the tractor.

It sounds like the end of the shifter is worn and needs to be built back up. It is easy to remove and take a look in the hole to see if you are stuck in 2 gears. All the notches need to line up to be in nuetral. Post this in the Farmall Forum to get more info. This subject has been covered quite a bit, and there are some photos of what the shifter end should look like.

I can't remember what is next to 5th , but say 3rd is. Put in in third and try to get your shifter half in 3rd and half in 5th and bring both back to neutral. Works on my M. If that don't work pull the top off and do what they say. Later....
