I probably am spelling it wrong but has anyone used miraic acid to clean gas tanks before sealing? I have used Kreem gas tank sealant on about 10 tanks over the last 6 years. The last time I got the system I was able to get everything (tank prep, acid etch, and sealant) but now I can pretty much only get the sealant. The supplier said that it is to expensive to handle the etch so he recommended to use miraic acid to clean the tank. I am leery about not doing the whole system like it was intended so this time I am going to try the POR system on two tanks and see how it works. But I have been very happy with the Kreem in the past and would like to keep using something I am familiar with. Thank you for any advice for any responce.

I use it but you must dry the tank and line as soon as possible or rust will set in. I use por-15 and rinse with their medel prep after I clean with M.A. that seams to keep it from starting to rust till I kin git it dry enoufh to line. Heres a pix of my drier in action.

I use muratic acid to clean gas tanks. It is the only thing I have found that will cut the tetraethyl lead off the inside of a tank assuring the sealer a strong bond that won't flake off.I dump in a box of baking soda with water to neutralize any left over acid that doesn't get flushed out real good. Then I blow the tank out real good with an air nozzle.

You're close, the correct spelling is MURIATIC acid, and yes, I have used it to clean gas tanks. In fact, it is the only product I have found that is just about guaranteed to get the job done the first time. I did not even use Kreem or anything similar after cleaning. The only reason to use any kind of liquid liner is if there are tiny rust pinholes that need sealed up.

Yes, it's Muratic, and if you want to get technical it is Hydrochloric (formula is HCL) hot stuff in the pure state. The stuff in the hardware stores is fairly diluted. When a prepped a tank to seal with Kreem about a year ago, the supplier told me how much to dilute the stuff from the hardware store, but I threw my notes away. It seems like the Muratic as purchased was 20 %, and the guy told me to dilute is half and half with water, so you would end up with a 10 % mix. I'd recommend you contact your Kreem source and get their recommended dilution before you start cleaning your tank.

Hey Dab, Not sure but you may be talking about Muratic Acid. You can find it at hardware store that are well stocked in cement stuff. It is used to rough up slabs that were finished to smooth, at least that is what I used it for. It is not sold as "muratic acid" but these products have a healthy concentration of it. HTH.
