I rolled my 1948 Allis Chalmers B. It has a loader and I got little carried away digging up a pile on the side of a hill. I learned a lesson about the center of gravity the hard way.

The tractor starts fine, idles well but stalls if I try to go anywhere. It also stalls if the bucket is full and trying to lift. There was a lot of smoke when I first started it.

Any ideas?

Thank you for all your suggestions in reply to Go ask Allis, 07-21-2006 03:49:34
Thanks for all the help.

I changed the spark plugs and fuel filter, cleaned out the fuel system and bought a new seat. It started right up this morning and ran well all day.

The best part, I kept it right side up.

I gotta go with you loosened some trash in your gas tank and it is gettin enough fuel to idle but not enough to do work, you may wanna use a external gas tank directly to the carb to check it out.

I had a Ford truck once that had a plugged up muffler(full of flaked rust)and would start and idle great but had no power and you could not rev it up..... .....Could you have got a plug of dirt in the muffler when it turned over?????

It only rolled onto its's side so I don't think any dirt got in there. It's a good idea and I will check.

I'm also going to get a new set of spark plugs for it. I don't know if it will do any good but it can't hurt.

Does this type of tractor have an oil cup for an air filter? If so, where did all the oil go?

From where I ended up it looked like the oil came straight out the air intake. I took apart the carb and there was some strange gunk in the bottom. I suppose some of the oil could have worked its way in.

I cleaned off the plugs and cleaned the carb but it still does the same thing. Starts right up, idles fine but as soon as any load is put on the engine it stalls. Either moving the bucket or the tractor.

Does it feel like it is the engine lacking power or possibly the tranny or rearend locked up?

It feels like the engine is lacking power. After it stalls it will roll in gear. It will also stall if I push the bucket against the ground.

I cleaned off the plugs and cleaned the carb but it still does the same thing. Starts right up, idles fine but as soon as any load is put on the engine it stalls.

You could have done a number of things to the engine when you rolled it. I would start out by pulling the plugs and checking them to see if they are fouled from the oil the probably got in the cylinders. You will also probably have to open up the carb and check it out because if it had any dirt in it, the dirt if now in the jets. You might have even cracked the distubutor cap. My self I would do a full tune up and oil change and then go from there

Thanks for the input.

I don't think its the transmission because I can stall it using the bucket.

I will try cleaning the carb. There was a lot of junk in the sediment bowl and the fuel filter. I'll let you know how I make out.
