I posted this question on the Farmall/IHC forum
a couple weeks ago and never got a respone so I'm trying here. I'm in the process of restoring a '48 Farmall C and I need to know how/where to route the lead wire from the for the water temp gauge to the radiator. The original gauge is broken and the wire is cut off right behind the gauge. There is a plug in the upper water elbow (on the right hand side of the elbow) I believe that's where the sender should be screwed in but what is the proper way to route the wire from the gauge to the water outlet?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

The gauge goes at the bottom of the housing below the light/steering post. I don't know the exact routing, as mine doesn't have one. The sensor fits in the top of the water inlet elbow. If the tube has been cut it is not repairable, you need a new gauge and sender, which come as a unit. Probably no one answered you on the Farmall board because the gauge was not standard on any but kerosene/distillate tractors. Some questions go unanswered either because the right people weren't there, or your question got pushed down the line. Never hurts to ask again, perhaps the next day.

I know that you can't repair the gauge once the lead has been cut off, I have a new gauge. The old gauge besides having the lead cut had the glass broken out and the needle and face rusted so it was total junk. My C is a gasoline engine and did have the water temp gauge. I am by no means the original owner and do not know the history so it may have been added after factory. Was the water temp gauge an option on the gasoline C's? What would have been in the hole for the gauge if it was not equipped from the factory with the temp gauge? My tractor is a '48 C and it also does have a water pump. I know that some C's did not have a water pump, it is possible that when you got the water pump you also got the gauge? This is the fist tractor I've ever delved into doing any major mechanical work/resoration on. In the past I just drove them - never had to fix them.

Sport,
I've never owned a C or Super C, but have (a long time ago) worked on a few. I'd thread the gauge into/thru it's perspective place and run it along the head and valve cover until you reach the place where it goes into the water jacket. There should be "clips" on the valve cover that it and the wiring harness should fit onto. I think tha this is how it is suppose to be routed. You may want to look at another tractor like yours and see how it's routed.

Jim

Can't help much since I have never had a C but on the B I had the gauge was down close to the sender unit, maybe a foot or so. If you have a long one you want to run it so ifs not close to any engine parts that get hot or the readings you get will be wrong and then you have problems
