If by "missing" you mean not down to three cyl's but irregularly missing a beat,(flooding, as Old says, will show black smoke and has a curious, hard to describe losing-power, laboring, loping feeling, while running lean often has a thready, straining, not quite smooth feeling) plugs old? clean/gap. Clean: both ends plug wires; cap (outside, inside), contacts where plug wires go in, inside contacts incl rotor contact in center, rotor(center contact, esp'ly end of rotor where meets plug contact), anything I'e overlooked. Plug wires feel "live", flexible? Have fun, I'm glad you're cussing it and not me, but at least so far it's it's all free things. Good luck.

It might be running either to lean or to rich, but most of the time if its running rich you will see black smoke. You could also have a bad disturbutor capand rotor of the points set wrong any or all of those can/will cause that type of problem
