Need help. I have a 35 that ran fine until winter and sat. It ran fine with the first start of spring. After a day of use it starting to run poorly and stopped. After this it tried to start again a couple of times. It now will not even try to start. It turns over like a champ. I have changed the gas, oil, filter, rebuilt carb., changed plugs, points, condenser, wires. Still nothing. If anyone can make a suggestion it would be appreciated.

Turns over like a champ?- is there any compression? Does it have spark? Are you getting fuel through the system?

I have compression, getting fire and fuel is working. It has me really confused. I don"t claim to be a mechanic, but I do feel it is something simple that I"ve overlooked.

You said you changed the wires Spark Plug Wires? Did you get all the wires back in the right order?
Pull off one of the wires from the spark plugs, hold
it about 1/4" from the head and see if it sparks when you push the starter button and the engine
turns over. Did you replace with solid copper core
wires. If you have spark this way , and the wires are on the right plugs, It must be fuel. Pull the choke out, try hard to start it , and if it doesn't
fire, pull one of the plugs out and see if it is wet with gas.

I will double check this as I don't think this was something that I looked at. I was fairly disgusted this last time working on it. I keep thinking it is a gas issue also. Do you think a rebuilt carb. would be an idea? The carb is as old as the tractor (64) and up until now has never been repaired. I will try this out over this weekend. thanks

That's all you need, Fuel(with the right amount of air), compression & spark. Get it all there at the same time and it'll run.

Have you tried a small whiff of starting fluid?

I'm beginning to think I may have a gas issue. It seems to be the general consensus. Thanks
