Don"t know if a tach cable is the same as a speedo cable, but there"s a tool to square up the one end and a universal cable kit had a plastic upper end. You cut the cable to length, heat the cable end and slide on the plastic tip. Jim

When I worked in the truck shop we made our own cables, had a forming tool to make the square end. We would cut the inner cable to lenght and place it in the anvil type tool and smack with a hammer. It made the square shape with one whack. Only takes a few minutes in all.
I'm sure some older truck shops still have that tool.

I used a speedometer replacement cable (inside cable) to fix the tach on my 350 - worked like a charm and can be cut to any length. One end is squared already - the other end gets a crimp on square fitting installed. Crimp tool comes with the kit. I think it came from AutoZone but any parts place should have "em.
