O.k. guys... be ready to roll up your sleeves and help a lady in distress. :-) I have an old Ford LGT 100 that I love, and it is what I mow my 2 acres with. It does a great job. My problem? I hit a tree stump (covered by grass) and knocked my mower deck off. There are 2 "hooks" in the back, and 2 in the front. I raised up the back end of the deck, and put the rear "hooks" back on. Now I'm trying to put front 2 "hooks" on. Not having much luck. Does anyone know... should the front hooks go on first? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

D'Marie Be sure to run stabilizer in you gas for the last mowing( I like to use "seafoam") also take the sparkplug out and put a few squirts of light on in the cylinder.Put the plug back in for the winter, the next time you go to start it, turn it over a few times and then replace the plug, clean the air filter, then you set to go
Good luck
Ron

Don't know about the Ford there but on our John Deere, front goes no then you have to lower the b ack end and then slide it on. Just my two cents. Paul

Paul, Thank you for your reply. I just came back in from the barn... :-) I took the back hooks down, then got the front end hooks locked in. I raised the back of the deck back up, but now the hooks are coming up, and touching, underneath the bar they hook onto. Should the handle that raises and lowers the deck be in any certain setting? Is that why I can't "slide it in?" Thanks again, Paul. P.S. The reason I'm trying to do this myself is that there is a 4 week wait (and the grass continues to grow), and a $300 charge from the lawn repair man.

The handle that sets the hegiht should be all the way down, the front hooked in and then you, or at least i have to when I do it when I put mine on, wiggle and work it back for for the back hooks to work into their spot. Helps if you have someone else on one side and someone on the other. PAul

Ya Hoooo!! I got it!! in reply to paul in on, 04-27-2006 20:18:05
I'm so excited! I got the mower deck back on!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I wasn't sure about getting the belt back on, so I took the spark plug out (for safety reasons), put the belt on as far as I could, and than slowly turned the wheel. And, it too, worked! Next, I put the spark plug back in, put the hood on, started the engine, and hit the switch to turn the mower on... everything is working! Do I sound excited? :-) (Blush) Now I can't wait for tomorrow morning to get here so I can get back to work and get my grass mowed. Seriously, thank you so much for your help.

Not a problem. Smart thinking when it came to taking the spark plug off. We usually take our deck off bedire we winterize ours and clean it real well. Anyway, happy cutting, What size of deck do u have for 2 acres? Paul

Paul, I'm not sure what size the deck is, so I measured it from side to side. It's about 45" and has 3 blades underneath. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what steps do you take to winterize your's? Also, how often should one have the blades sharpened? And lastly, should I "wash and wax" it just like a car (for upkeep/appearance), or just wipe it down occasionally? Again, thanks Paul.

Winterizing your mower in reply to D'Marie, 04-28-2006 14:59:29
Been gone for a week so just got around to this. Take out the battery and fully charge it before the winter. I leave it out of the machine too, no difference. I just take some armerall and wipe it down. If you want to go that extra mile, knock yourself out. Depending on what type of blades you have, the grade of steel, what you cut (lots of sand or fine dirt) all affect how sharp the blade is. As long as there seems to be an edge that is fairly sharp, and smooth, then they'll be okay. By smooth I mean no rock chunks taken out of it. Take a file, not a grinder, and file with a file as it won't take the temper out of the blades and they last longer. With a grinder the blades heat up aqnd it takes the tmeper out of them, making them chip easier. I do mine at least once a year for sure. I also change oil and filter before putting it away so it's ready to go in the spring. Make sure you give each grease nipple two shotys fo grease and make sure every nut and bolt is tight. That;s all I think. Paul
